Another issue I used to have with our drilling technology was the speed limitations. During drilling, I could see how the ROP was decreasing by the meter.

Improved productivity with maintained Rate Of Penetration

Sure, top hammers gave a high speed during the first meters, but it slowed down considerably quite quickly. When I reached 25 meters, the ROP was significantly lower than the initial speed and as a result our productivity was affected.

However, since we started using Wassara, I no longer have a problem with decreasing ROP. Because the percussion unit is located directly behind the bit on Wassara hammers, the length of the borehole does not affect the ROP. This means that not only are we now able to drill longer and straighter boreholes, we also maintain a high ROP. As a result, we have greatly improved our productivity, and my job has become a lot easier since I can plan my workday much better.

Question 3A

What average ROP do you have in your mine today?

Question 3B

Do you think you would benefit from a higher ROP?

Coming up: Let’s see what Wassara’s water-powered drilling technology has done for the working environment in this mine.
